Importance of an Emergency Flashlight
Flashlights are an essential part of any emergency or survival kit. I personally believe that flashlights complete the kit for emergency preparedness.
Most phones today even have a flashlight feature on them. That alone should give you some indication on how important flashlights are. Many people settle with only having a flashlight on their phone and forget the importance of having a separate flashlight in the emergency kit.
There are so many self-proclaimed ‘best’ emergency flashlights on the market. They also vary in price. You can easily get a low quality battery operated flashlight from a discount store but in the same breath could purchase a solar powered or hand cranked flashlight that costs a few hundred dollars. It is really important to understand the quality of flashlight you are purchasing.

Uses for Flashlights
There are SO many uses for flashlights. Most people focus on using a flashlight to have the capability of seeing in the dark and overlook the many other ways to use a flashlight. Some people may only use flashlights in emergency scenarios, while other people like handymen and other tradesmen have to use a flashlight on a daily basis.
Flashlights are also very reliable and can triple as also a communication and a self-defense tool.
How to Decide Which One to Buy
There are so many categories of the best emergency flashlights. The options range from waterproof to solar powered to hand cranked and the most common battery operated option. Here are a few pros and cons for each different type of emergency flashlight.
Battery Operated-A battery operated flashlight is the most common flashlight choice and often can be the most affordable. A downside to battery operated is that the flashlight will no longer work once you run out of charged batteries.
Hand Cranked- A hand cranked flashlight turns muscle effort into electrical power and finally into visible light. The crank turns gears that create a speed mechanical advantage and turn the generator at a fast rate. The rotors of the generator convert motion into electrical energy that then charges a battery. A con to having a hand cranked flashlight is that they take A LOT of effort.
Solar Powered- The most important benefit of solar powered flashlight is that you do not have to replace the batteries regularly. Solar powered flashlights are very useful in remote areas where no other source of electricity is available except solar power. A solar powered flashlight uses sunlight energy, converted into electrical energy in a solar cell or panel that sits on the outside of the flashlight, that is then stored in a battery. The biggest con to solar powered flashlights is the fact that they do need to be consistently recharged even if they’re not currently being used.
Flashlight for Those On the Go Moments
No matter which the best emergency flashlight you decide to go with, the most important thing is that you have one that you can rely on.
Flashlights are an essential tool for surviving many scenarios in life and are easy to take on the go. Whether you use them every day or sporadically, these illumination tools make life that much easier.
